The Longest Day

The Longest Day is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. And it's the day the Alzheimer's Association calls on everyone to fight Alzheimer's disease by raising funds and awareness for care, support and research.
This will be the 3rd time I participate in the Longest Day Fundraiser for Alzheimers and I have created the 8"X10" oil painting above and on June 20, 2020 I will hold a drawing. For every donor who donated at least $20 or over, their name will be placed in a drawing for a chance to win the piece of artwork shown above. (U.S. Residents only, framing and easel is not included. If your name is the name drawn, I will cover the cost of shipping the painting to you.) If you do not wish to participate in the $20 drawing, any donation will be appreciated in support of the Alzheimer's Association.
All donations are in support of The Longest Day, a fundraising event to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.

Today, over 35 million people across the world are living with Alzheimer's, including more than 5 million Americans. In the U.S. alone, more than 15 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer's and dementia. We must take action now, or these numbers will continue to rise.

Together, we can show those facing Alzheimer's disease that they are not alone. Please click the link to make a donation today to help the Alzheimer's Association support all those facing the disease. Thank you!

Calming Waves

Calming Waves (Plein Air)  8"X8" Oil Painting

My annual plein air trip to Maine with a group of my artist friends was, as always so productive, enjoyable and outright fun. I cannot quite decide if I need to work on this piece a yittle bit more in studio just to clean a few things up. Hmmm...
It was such a calming week especially during these tumultuous times. So it seemed a perfect fit to me for the GJWP category of "Calm" this month. It felt so good to be disconnected while up in Maine. Phones barely work. Internet kept giving the spinning wheel. I embraced and enjoyed it. Ignorance is bliss at times. Wishing everyone peace and calm in their lives.

I also wanted to let everyone know that the drawing was held for my fundraiser for Alzheimer's Association and Marina M. was the winner. Congratulations to Marina. I reached my goal of $2,000 with all your kind help so a big shout out of thank you to all of you that supported and contributed to this campaign in the fight against Alzheimer's. Although the drawing is done this year, you can still donate to this great cause here: Alzheimer's Longest Day. I will be joining the cause again next year, so if you are interested in a drawing of another one of my paintings, it is held the same time every year. Check back to my blog early spring of 2019 to join in on the fun for a great cause.

Let's fight against Alzheimers together-with a possible chance to win a painting...

Alzheimers has effected so many of our loved ones lives. To help with this cause, I will be holding a drawing for one of my paintings in support of The Longest Day-The Alzheimer's organization yearly campaign in the fight against Alzheimers.

I have created a pastel landscape painting sized 12"X12" and on June 21, will hold this drawing (no pun intended). For every donor who has donated at least $20 or over, their name will be placed in a drawing for a chance to win the piece of artwork shown above. (U.S. Residents only, Framing not included.)
All details are in this link-Margaret Farrell Bruno-The Longest Day Alzheimer's Org campaign if you would like a chance to win this painting or would just like to donate to help with this cause. Thank you for any help in this wonderful cause.

Into The Night

Into The Night, Pastel 12"X16"

The Girls Just Wanna Paint group I belong to had the latest challenge of "Color" as our monthly theme. I was also producing a painting for an Invitational Show of Nocturne paintings being held at The Cecil Bryne Gallery in Charleston, SC, which fit right into the concept. Show runs from May 4TH - June 30TH, Link Here.
The scene was early night with the last of the brilliant color light piercing the sky before it fell off into the horizon. Local building's lights had all come on mimicking the sky color.

"Luxury Lake" 8"X8" Pastel Margaret Farrell Bruno

Latest GJWP challenge painting with the theme of "Luxury". Luxury to me is not a piece of jewelry, fancy clothing or a residence filled with expensive furnishings and items. More rewarding is a luxurious end of the day peaceful, beautiful sunset reflecting on a summer Maine Lake.

Sharing News!

Latest News to Share

I headed to France...

Well, sort of...Recently my work was featured in the French art magazine, Pratique Des Arts. I just have to take a refresher course in the language to be able to read it thoroughly. But since I was interviewed, I do have a pretty good idea what it says. Thank you, Pratique Des Arts for this opportunity! If you are fluent in French, or would like to look at the pictures, you can purchase their magazines here. There is a wonderful feature on IAPS in this issue above, also.
Speaking of IAPS, I received my "Master Circle" Status this year. It was so enjoyable heading out to New Mexico to receive my medal. I dragged along my husband and we side tripped to Santa Fe and also made a trip to the Georgia O'Keefe Studio. I recommend that trip to everyone, not only for the history lesson, but for the views in that area. I hope to return to do more painting in the surrounding hills.

Some other big news, I am Back to Painting Full Time

I will always dearly cherish all the friendships I made working at North River Arts Society, but there were too many signals that told me I needed to get back to painting full time. Life is short and I have to cherish the time I was given on this planet to do what I love most. So I started with my yearly jaunt to Maine with some of my sister artist friends. A week of painting dusk to dawn, good food and lots of laughter. I'll be sharing my creations soon.

Other news to share:
  • I'll be doing a demo tomorrow night for the Foxboro Art Association to be held at the Boyden Library at 7pm. Click here or their face book page here for more info
  • I'll be teaching a class on Beginner's pastel starting November at the North River Arts Society, haven't you always wanted to learn how to paint in pastel? Come join in the fun.
  • AND I have to share that my daughter Rachael Meyers and her friend Dani Nylan have cofounded a site for South Shore Moms. It features lots of great info not only for young Moms, but for everyone, including us "Nina's" (that is what my grandchildren call me.) Check it out! www.theSouthShoreMoms.com and you can also follow on Facebook here www.facebook.com/thesouthshoremoms/
  • And I also hope to blog a lot more now that I have more time, so stay tuned. Thanks so much for following. Follow my Instagram and Facebook page, too, if you like.

Quotes

"Connection" 11"X14" Pastel by Margaret Farrell Bruno
"Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind. And always remember: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away."
- George Carlin

Our Girls Just Wanna Paint Challenge this month, which I got to choose, was "Quotes".  We each could choose whatever quote we wanted and then do a painting expressing that quote in some way. I have a book in which I collect quotes. Some are comical. Others are thoughtful and wise in their words. Often times I need kleenex near when I reread. And some are even my own words. Ask my kids, I can be so enlightening. haha! And I even collect political quotes, but I thought we are thronged with enough politics these days to use any of those. Right?

I thought it was going to be an easy challenge, until I started reviewing all the quotes in my book. There were many I would love to base paintings on. In the end, I chose this one. Thanks, George. There are a few things in the painting I think I may still need to tweak, but deadline called.

This has inspired me to do more artwork based on quotes. Enjoy the game! Go Pats!

Stripes

"Pumpkin Stripes" 8"X8" ©MargaretFarrellBruno

The latest GJWP  challenge was Stripes. So with Halloween just around the corner and pumpkins in abundance, I thought it would be fun to add stripes to a white pumpkin and then do a still life painting of said pumpkin on a striped piece of cloth. What possessed me to use a white striped cloth when I chose white pumpkins. What was I thinking? White on white...it was a challenge. I added the black cloth to create an additional dark contrasting stripe and which, along with the cloths stripes, leads the eye back in space.

And speaking of GJWP, we will be at the Community Center in Hingham for the Annual Arts Walk
Stop on in, we would love to see you. We'll all be there with paints and paintings in hand.

Maine Island

Maine Island 6"X6" Oil Painting
30 in 30 Day 11
This spot in Maine is one of my favorite to paint. There is something about the light and color that refracts in the water in this spot. Changes is seconds and unexpected. The future will hold a really large painting as there was this really neat green color appearing in the water this day which I could not, in all honesty, figure out how it was occurring and I am really challenged to see if I can paint it in a large studio piece.

I am doing a demo Tuesday, Sept 13, 2016 at the Dedham Art Center. It will be a pastel demo. 7pm-9pm- details at Dedham Art Assoc. Hope to see you there.

PS. Most of these paintings will be available on my Etsy Site soon. Details posted soon.

Rose of Sharon

"Rose of Sharon" 5"X7" Pastel MFBruno

Day 5
I found this Rose of Sharon bush growing between the limbs of my butterfly bush. What a nice surprise since I did not plant it. Now my dilemma is how to remove and replant it without harming it.

Dusk - Pastel on canvas paper MFBruno

30 in 30 day 4
I was playing with some canvas paper I had in my flat file. I found I didn't really like the paper for painting with oils.  So I was trying out how the pastel may work on it. It wasn't too bad, although a little slick. I had toned it a gray color. Overall I probably won't use it again, but you never know what results you may have unless you experiment.
